But if all scientists could say was that there is no life out there, it would be pointless to search for it. Scientists started this project two decades ago and have sent up 10,000 signals into space. These were followed by a further 70 before they finally stopped the project. However, they are now looking to reboot the project and have already sent out a further 20 messages into space. But if we do find life there, it will be unique and could change our understanding of the universe forever.
Other Planets
They have also identified several other planets, including Proxima b and the TRAPPIST-1 system, that may support life. But it remains to be seen whether or not these are suitable for life. They also want to detect any signals from the exoplanets because of the possibilities this could bring. Many different stars would be visible from these exoplanets, and they could potentially be used as landmarks that would allow scientists to determine their location in space about the Earth.
